Play it safe, to many times a conjurer, or even worse a DD dies during second stages of ifrit after the party has recovered from hellfire, and the conjurer that is left takes the chance to raise that person. This is usually when a tank goes down! Idk maybe thats just me sucking, just saying! wait for jumps!

Turn your face to the sun, and let the shadows fall behind you!
Nah, that's not you sucking lol. The tank can really only stay alive as long as the mages aren't dead, alone you have a maximum healing potential that's not very great. A dead DD can wait for a raise. A dead healer makes things much harder.
Nah, it is not you sucking. There is only so much a tank can do to keep himself alive when the CNJs are busy doing something else. After Hellfire both CNJ should tunnel vision on the tank to make sure he stays alive. DDs should take care of themselves at that point… as they should throughout the fight anyway but eh. Pro tip for melee: If you are getting low on health, run back to the THM spot and get out of combat mode so you can get your health back up and avoid Vulcan Burst. If, for some reason, one of the THMs is not in red they will probably give you a hand as well.
One thing to add about the raising thing: If a CNJ goes down unless the other CNJ has good health/mana there is a high possibility that we will lose. That said, one DD risking their life after Ifrit's next ability to get that CNJ up is vital. You cannot control what ability that might be, but if it is Eruption it is usually pretty safe for a raise. However, if his ability is anything but Eruption the person raising is likely to die just as his raise goes off, because the chance of an Eruption happening after any other weaponskill is very high. As long as the raise goes off on the healer the sacrifice of a single DD is fine. Other DDs can raise that person later during a jump, so long as there are plenty of emergency raises ready to go.
Sentinel, Rampart, Sacred Prism + Cure definitely helps at the beginning of the fight. It gives the tank a good head start if nothing else.
Bloodbath + Goring Blade combo offered a nice little health boost from time to time, not to mention the additional damage which helps keep enmity.
I was perusing the Gladiator forum and saw someone recommend saving Riot Blade for just in case someone pulls hate and all enmity skills are on cooldown. Makes sense to me since Riot Blade is actually a ranged attack and usually when someone pulls hate it's not by a ton.
Aside from that, the general skill rotation worked wonders. Didn't even have to Rampart the DDs after the initial pull to keep hate in most cases.
Edit: Also looking around a little more, someone suggested intentionally turning him around for a second after he jumps to use Riot Blade on him, which lowers physical defense when executed from behind. While that positioning is often the result of a botched landing before returning to the tank spot, it seems it can be used to our advantage. My only concern is that DDs need to be careful about not being in front of him.
I didn't know about Riot Blade being ranged. That is good info!
As for the def down thing, I know a tank that does that during Incinerate. He says that the timing is a little tricky, but if pulled off right you can also avoid the damage of the fire breath entirely. Of course, if the timing is off… haha.
Yes, I realize this only shows up on the Lodestone, but I really think we currently have the skills to pull this off if people want it. Just takes a bit of tweaking and a little extra coordination.
Is this something that anyone is interested in? Or is it a tad too soon to think about doing silly things like this?
Well, technically it is not an ls achievement. Just an individual one. The idea would be to rotate members who are interested until everyone who wants it can get it. We do need at least 8 people who either have done it, are capable of doing it and want to do it, of course.
