This is for my own benefit of learning more exact positioning of other roles better in the fight, but perhaps useful to others as well:

Not a very clean run and it was recorded before the job revamps, but this video shows CNJ right side positioning and spell timing really well. The info on where the Radiant Plumes spawn is pretty useful to me. It also shows a decent view of the CNJ on the left side.

CNJ left side positioning post revamp. The person who recorded this video has an incredibly annoying habit of zooming in an out for the duration of the fight, but the positioning is very clear. Unless you have a hard on for shoddy camera work I don't recommend watching it to the end though.

I am trying to find a good video from a GLD perspective using the step forward > Rampart method at least once mid fight. If anyone has a link clearly showing this I would appreciate it.

I am also interested in an video showing a MRD or PGL DD timing and dodging Ifrit's close range AoE fart, if such a thing exists.

A thought occurs, PGL will be getting wind element fists with Monk. Wind > Fire (except in the case of both fire and blizzard of course lol) so Monk may give a significant damage boost against Ifrit come 1.21. Dragoon and Warrior of course are also coming with enhanced DPS.

Also worth considering is Bard positioning, probably with the Thms since I don't see Conjurers having too many MP issues in these fights. Bards could pop over to the Conjurers to give them a boost though, but that puts them at risk for cracks. We'll have to see how big of an AoE that song is, as well as the frequency and magnitude of MP regen caused.

With a bit of intelligence and some timing (not to mention good luck) it shouldn't be too hard to avoid running over to the CONs and MPing them. I would feel comfortable with that task, and I haven't beat the bastard yet.

That post apparently makes no sense when read…but you know what I mean.

I get what you mean, though the issue comes in how long it takes to get the MP regen really going to a substantial level. It's not like you can just run over, cast and run back immediately.

I am waiting for my group to continue, so random Ifrit fun to keep awake. This is stuff that I do so you might have seen me do it, but eh. Mostly for THM:

When the nails pop up, wait for Ifrit's next ability before you start nuking the nail. That way if he casts Eruption you won't get caught in it and have to heal before Hellfire.

After the nail is down instead of standing in the middle of the room waiting for Hellfire sit yourself in one of the safe spots instead. That way if Ifrit jumps you won't have to move and will gain more mana back for the last phase of the fight. You will have to move if you get Eruption, but since you are hanging back at least you wont get caught in it. This is also a good opportunity to shed a little hate, since you won't be casting until Ifrit jumps in the middle for Hellfire.

And some advice for all DD, since this is usually what kills us:

For the last phase, don't get too risky. Especially when trying to raise a DD. Save risk taking raises for the CNJs only. Dead DD can wait for dashes, unless too many raises have been used and are on cooldown. If that is the case then save it in case a CNJ goes down. DDs with their Raise cooldowns up should be first priority unless they are dying repeatedly. In that case leave them dead.

Limit your combos during this phase unless you are absolutely sure you can time it. Don't use 3 step combos in a row. Use 2, only if you can start it early and you are safe, then wait for the next ability and if you can use the 3rd at that time if it is still up and you are in range/safe. If you are lagging, do not try and combo at all. Just do one skill per ability window. Yes, it is slower, but slow and steady is better than being dead.

My experiences as a PGL:

Fists of Earth don't decrease damage taken from most of Ifrit's attacks, especially those little bursts in the last phase. Took around 360 or so damage regardless.

Also those little AoE bursts are not fun for PGL, especially with a lower defense. Maybe socketing a little more HP would help, not sure.

Aside from that, I was getting into the red consistently and fairly easily using the Howling Fist combo but my DPS was noticeably lower than any of the Lancers. Not sure what that's all about.
