Well it's really an issue of both. I'm not highly motivated to do so because I'm broke as shit (27k currently). Not having much gil, things blowing up carries a much higher personal cost. I can't just go grab another and try again right then and there, I'd have to wait quite a while to get money again to do it. Yeah, double melds aren't that bad but I just don't have the gil to do so. Because of that I lack motivation. What's the point if I'm just going to be broke again and possibly without even any upgraded equipment?
I know how you feel, but don't be discouraged! I know melds tend to trump all, but I'm sure your Grand Company offers good alternatives, which are perfectly realistic goals. I'm working toward some items myself that will boost my BLM a little. :)
I know regional leves aren't exactly popular, but if you're a good saver you can make some good money with them without having to craft anything, etc. Just save every little drop you get! It all adds up, trust me.
Well even GC gear is a bit of a long ways off for me these days. I'm still 20k seals from getting the item for that last rank, another 25k for the Beastmen book, 25k for a weapon and misc. amounts for the rest of the gear. I rarely see anyone ask in LS to do caravans and I opted out last night due to personal issues that leave me with little desire to even log into the game at all. That one at least is on me.
On top of that I don't have tons of time online to start with and I've recently been forcing myself to craft because it's about all I've got left to level. So I have to choose between crafting, doing a misc. event if people ask or gathering items to make money which rarely sell because I don't have a spot in Ul'dah.
I'm not really opposed to doing regional leves and all it's just another thing to add to the list of potentials. Slowly working toward the achievements but it's another option to choose over the others.
Forgive me if I sound a bit unreasonable but I just don't see it happening soon. Without the good gear I'm a burden to the group and I'd rather not hold the good players back.
Everyone knows how I feel about DKP systems so I will spare you all the rant. I will say that I have a hard on for Princess Xaio's "pick 1 and roll" system though. Perhaps with an added "If it is the last piece they need…" rule if it is their first set. I know that wouldn't be everyone's thing though.
As for more runs scheduled, we sometimes have to pug in people as it is. This is not a diss to pugs. Pugs are awesome and help keep things rolling. The question is does the person who sets the event have the will to find people willing to pug when we are short?
Echoing the whole "don't sign up if there is any chance you won't show up" bit. We have a "Maybe attending" on the drop down for a reason. Use it. "But I got what I needed before the run" is a pretty lame excuse too. We all know shit happens and sometimes we all will miss one or two things we have signed up for, but this is not for those moments. I am talking about a few folks we have who have a constant signing-but-no-showing problem. Stop wasting our time waiting on you please.
For end game content:
Please know your class and listen to instruction, even if you don't think the instruction is "right". Not knowing your class or not paying attention puts extra stress on everyone else that has to make up for you. Mistakes will happen and I think we are all cool with that, but missing your cue repeatedly leads to the entire group failing. It's not elitist to ask that everyone at least try their best.
On that note, a pet peeve of mine: Don't assume a "leadership" role without being asked. And don't call people out for doing what they are already doing. It makes you look stupid and makes the party grumpy in general.
As for gear, mostly AF should be fine to be perfectly honest, except for maybe PLD I guess. Just know your class. And if you don't know it well but are asked to switch to it anyway, at least tell people you are rusty/new to the class so the group knows what to expect. That said, when people show up in level 30 gear with no jewelry or using shit like Warped Arrows that's a problem. The game is tailored to NQ single melds of appropriate level and non HQ/double melded stuff is relatively cheap. I will do any synth/meld that you will actively use for free so there are not really any excuses for wearing crap.
tldr: If you want to schedule stuff be prepared to invite pugs. Show up when you sign up. Treat people and their time with respect. Be prepared with proper equipment.
Of course, this is all my opinion.
EDIT: Forgot one thing. No one asks to make caravan parties anymore because you could get out there and there could already be a party running.
Some one make a looking for static party sub-forum and set some general ground work for how to request a group for that sorta thing. also agree on everything pt said!
I won't lie i can be an elitist at points. . . . but i'm not really gonna give anyone shit for their gear if they are trying, lvl 1 arrows isn't trying, a lvl 41 ring /earring set isn't trying when NQ max lvl ones are cheap as dirt! Point being that for ALL jobs there are simple ways small or large to move forward and attempt to gear yourself a tad better, and everyone SHOULD care about that kinda thing enough to take those steps slowly or wtvr.
But as always Skill > gear
I got beat out every run on miser by a mnk in full af cause i don't know the job as well as he does and i got the parser data to prove it. anyways i was going somewhere with this post and now i've forgotten.
Turn your face to the sun, and let the shadows fall behind you!
