Yoshida's most recent post lets players know the current plan for the World Merge.
Hello everyone, Producer/Director Yoshida here.
I’d first like to thank you for all of your posts. I’ve been looking at the threads across all regions and I’m sorry that this has caused a huge disturbance amongst each of the regions.
Currently, we're seeing a lot of feedback that favors plan ②, and we're considering revisions that use plan ② as a base while retaining the merits of plan ④. The operations and development teams will continue to gather everyone’s feedback while we investigate further. This is also a technical matter and we also need to confirm schedule timing, so I’m sorry to say that we’ll need some additional time and that this will continue through the weekend and into the start of next week.
For the Topics announcement, we considered temporarily taking it down, but we decided against that as we feared that if players were unable to see the information, you wouldn’t be able to discuss it with the same background knowledge. Therefore, we’ll be keeping the current announcement up as we go into next week.
Just to reiterate, there are a lot of players that are voicing their concerns, and we will strive to find an acceptable balance as much as possible before moving forward. Therefore please keep this in mind and try to understand our reasoning.
I pick server #6 because it was the number I pulled when I went to the deli six days ago and a lady had a monkey with her. Normally I disagree with people bringing pets into a store because they won't let me bring in mine, sure mine is a pony but still pets are pets and mine feels left out, like roudolph and Randy who I refused to pick because he sucked at kickball and not because he was Canadian and said "aboot" even though it made me laugh. You know what an awesome pet would be besides the obvious velicoraptor? A pegasus. Hear me out, can you imagine only feeding that bad boy chilli cheese breakfast burritos from the local construction site roach coach then flying over the people you hate? I can and I would start with people that have ever used the term "expect the unexpected" and people who wear socks with flip flops. Before this drags on too long I cast my vote for server #4…expect the unexpected.
There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that do not.
So if I'm understanding this correctly, we won't have to pick a new server unless we willingly want to leave. I imagine most LSs are going to stay on the server so we may just want to stay put, unless enough people REALLY want to switch.
We are still working on the longer post that was made by Yoshi-P earlier today, but wanted to go ahead and share with you the first post he made which is a concise version outlining the main concepts of how the world merge specifications will be changed.

I am sorry for creating problems for everyone with the World Merge. In regards to the World Merge specifications that were announced the other day, we have received a large amount of feedback from everyone and I would like to share with you the results of our re-exploration of the specifications. Since this is a forum post, and not the specifications itself, this is more of a concept, but until the official announcement is released, please check over these two posts in regards to the direction of the specifications.

The specification overview is an extremely large amount of text, so I wrote out a brief version. If you just want to get a grasp of the content, then please just read over this post.
The foundation of the World Merge will be based on consolidating multiple existing Worlds as below:
A + B = New World
For both existing Worlds, Linkshells, Friend Lists, and Blacklists will remain intact. The Worlds will be consolidated from the current 18 Worlds into 10 Worlds, which includes a completely new World recommended for players in the EU time zone. The 10 new Worlds will have completely new names.
Also, at the same time as the World Merge, we will be temporarily accepting “World Transfer applications,” so if you are looking to change to a new World, take this opportunity to do so.
In regards to character names and Linkshell names, I have written about the handling of those at the end of the next post, so please check it out.
So basically, merge worlds as needed and give those who want to move the option to do so. Otherwise all players from their respective worlds will be automatically moved to the new world. So this means all inactive Besaid players will go to whatever the new merged server is. So with that I would suggest that we do not move servers at all, stay put.
It's amazing how attached to a server name people can get…. The core group of players isn't going anywhere. But I suppose people are just going to find something to bitch about because it's different than how it is now.
