So Phantasy Star Online 2 is going to be released in Japanese on July 4th.
From my experience in the open beta, it's not hard in any way to get into and play. It's Free-to-play so no need to worry about fees. The account creation process requires no proof of actually living in Japan. I'll post info or links to info when I find it for launch.
There is an established English community on Ship 2, blocks 20-22. There is an unofficial English patch in the works as well.
I'll definitely be playing this, especially to kill time waiting for rested XP to accumulate in FFXIV lol.
I would love to try it. Even if I had to use a proxy I would probably be interested. I have a friend who really liked the old Phantasy Star games. I'll let him know of the new game.
Would be nice not to have to use multiple proxy servers.
Very nice :) It's great they aren't really strict about enforcing the jp region only rule.
The reason I was concerned is I was thinking of trying to get in to play Archeage, a Korean sandbox mmo, but I would need to do all sorts of crazy things to slip under the radar because it is only a Korean release. Good news is Archeage has promised an NA release so I just have to keep waiting.
I may try to do naughty things to play that game though. >.< I imagine you have heard of Archeage but here is a vid if you haven't heard of it.
I have been watching vids of PSO2 and it looks great for a ftp game. It doesn't really look ftp at all. The combat action looks quick and fluid and it has a great look. I definitely want to try it out.
Like this PSO2 vid here really makes me want to play. I really want to fight giant pouncing robots in the forest!!!!!!
Now you guys can't tell me fighting that mob doesn't look like a blast.
It was a guide for the open-beta but the client is the same, just updated and all the registration info seems to be the same. The other guides for figuring out the interface, as it's in Japanese, are quite helpful as well.
As for downloading the client, I wouldn't use the official SEGA downloader. Just torrent the game client off of any site really, run it and patch it. From there, the above site has guides to setting up the in-game account once you've started it up.
Here's some screenshots of a Force character I made to pass the time during Japanese prime time. The English community ship was full so I had to wait to make Arcell, those pictures will follow later :p
