I guess I just don't see much of a problem because I'm apparently the only person in all of FFXIV that actually enjoys Hamlet Defense lol. The way it's worded, we'll only need the 9 seals and 25k seal item once. If we needed it for each weapon it would end up just like the Moogle pre-req and they'll change it to a one-time deal. I have little issue with doing all that one time to unlock the ability to get the Relic weapon quest.

The way it's worded though, the quest will be pretty much the same for each weapon. I'm thinking it'll be something like:

* Get unfinished version of weapon
* Collect the required items, including Miser's Mythril and Alumina Salts from AV/CC.
* Give those to the blacksmith dude
* Get Relic weapon
* Start over for the next.

It's not the best but I mean that's what I've managed to piece together so far. Far from the worst they've done.

There's a new link on the Lodestone about the basics of Hamlet. I hadn't noticed before so I'll put it here in case someone ever makes a guide or something.

Looking at a better list of new items, looks even more like it'll go something like this:

* Blacksmith tells you where to get the timeworn weapon and associated text.
* Get timeworn version of weapon
* Get associated text
* Get unfinished version of weapon, probably after handing those items to the blacksmith
* Collect the required items, including Miser's Mythril and Alumina Salts from AV/CC.
* Give those to the blacksmith dude
* Get Relic weapon
* Start over for the next.

Though to be fair, they could be different enough while following the same pattern. All of the AF quests followed the same basic pattern but there were cutscenes and story that made them unique, despite being constructed on the same template mostly.

What I am saying has jack shit to do with liking Hamlet Defense and everything to do with the fact that some people will grind the hell out of the pre-reqs for the quest and never unlock it due to the low drop rate. But good to know that you are ok with the few players who will grind the hell out of it and get shit for their efforts. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

I never said that I'm okay with people going unrewarded, please don't put words in my mouth. What I'm saying is that I personally have no issue with doing this pre-req because I enjoy the Hamlet Defense event so I am willing to do it as long as I need to. I'm willing to help people out with it and as long as the events are scheduled I'll come to them.

This was coming. We all had to know it whether we realized it or not. SE has worked themselves into a corner by botching the launch and having to hire a new team. Thousands of screaming fans stood around them in that corner begging for more. The only way they could keep going was to charge us and then create content that takes a LONG time to finish because they need time to fix all of the major problems with the game, and then create new content beyond that. I don't like playing RNG games, but hopefully once 2.0 launches they will depart from this type of content and move to what PT wants.

On a side note, the new interview is in the feed and there are some interesting things in it. 24 man dungeons, a description of the primals in 2.0 (which will be open world roaming, and indeed summon-able), and trains!

The Relic requirements have seriously dampened my hope for this game.

Like Tips, my luck is shit on Shitfrit and Froogle. (And I used to enjoy those fights)

The minor boost from having the Relic is completely not worth the effort. Shit, there is already a new teir of GC weapons in the dats/game.

The difference in the GC weapons and the Primal weapons is minimal without sanction; with sanction (on the right weapon) it's actually better. So why bother wasting the time?

This is not what I want out of my gaming experience. Not even close.

I don't need crafting to be a MNK…
I don't need Hamlet in any sense…
I don't need a time/gil sink that has no measure of progress…
And, I definitely don't want the non-sense to continue.

I will not be doing anything regarding Relics or Hamlets… It's dribble. And if this IS what we can expect from their idea of "a long-term goal"…

Had a whole thing typed up but thought better of it. No one's forcing you to do it, don't then. 9 less seals we have to get, no skin off my nose. If this really bothers you THAT much, this game might not be for you considering the dev team isn't going to change with 2.0. They'll be able to pump content out faster so maybe some of the rates may be increased but really I mean the general philosophy of the team is likely to not change drastically.

There's also not enough unanimous backlash currently about the Relic quest to cause them to change it. There's actually a lot less crying about this on the official forums than I thought there would be. I'm not saying I'm happy about the amount of RNG but currently if I want a Relic weapon this is what I have to do so I'm going to do it. Works out for me though since I need to do Hamlet for other gear anyway, two birds with one stone.

And now for something actually constructive:

I am going to be honest, shit like this makes me want to play another game. If you want me gone just say the word. I know when I am not wanted and am already on the edge of taking a break. Less white-knighting in my life would certainly be an improvement.

People should play a game they enjoy. If something that is added detracts a great deal of their enjoyment from a game, especially to the point where they are not having fun, I would certainly suggest taking a break or finding another game. Playing a game you don't enjoy will likely never lead to anything good. That is at least my personal logic. If I no longer enjoy a game, I stop playing it. Do I personally want you gone? Not at all. No one said you're not wanted and to be honest my post was directed more at Diji. However if you're no longer enjoying the game then I would support the notion of taking a break.

Want to call me a white knight? Go ahead. I'm not saying the dev team is perfect, I've just accepted the current requirements as "what we have to do to get a Relic weapon". I'm not 100% happy with it but I'm also not that discontent with it. It's going to take a lot of time, gil and luck but if I want a Relic weapon, that's what I'm going to have to do.

To be honest though, I really don't see the general dev philosophy changing too terribly drastically. The one big thing I see changing is moving more away from RNG filler because they need something to hold us over until 2.0. However things like % chance drops are part of the MMO genre as a whole and will likely still be used, though maybe not to the current extent. With more content coming out at a greater pace post 2.0 they won't have to rely on one thing holding us over for a year so the drop rates may be more reasonable, however any time there is a % chance drop there is always the chance that you'll never see it, no matter how good the rate is.
