So it seems like this may be used to get AF weapons. Someone copied down some new things that Rowena says:
Rowena:Aye, I've known Gerolt ever since I landed in this business. Ain't seen him for a while, though. Last time I saw him, the ol' fool had tears in his eyes and snot drippin' from his nose. Fallen on hard times, he said. Asked for a bit o' coin to tide him over. Never paid me back, neither.
Rowena: Couldn't say for sure where he is now. Seem to remember hearin' he was in the Black Shroud, puttin' up at Hawthorne Hut or some such place.
Rowena: You might do well to commission his work. He'll even reforge the relics of old if you make it worth his while, and there ain't no other in Eorzea as can do that.
Rowena: If it's relics you care to know about, I've a promissory note what might catch your fancy. It don't look like much, but it'll get ol' Gerolt to fire up his forge. That much I promise.
Rowena: I'm loath to part with it…but I s'pose I could bring myself to do so if you gave me somethin' to cover Gerolt's debt…
Rowena: Saaay…three primal seals? Aye, the ones them beastmen leaders carry. And none o' the same, neither! Three different seals. And throw in a copy of On the Properties of Beastmen for good measure. Bring me that little lot, and the note's yours.
Rowena: Not a bad deal, if I say so myself.
Rowena: Seems as of late, there's been much talk of revisitin' the ways of the past…and not just by them addled collectors what come to me for my services. I, for one, welcome the chatter if it means a heavy purse.
Rowena: It started with the revival of the Grand Companies, it did.
Rowena: That got people's heads all filled with flowery visions of a time when the streets were lined with gold, honeyed wine flowed from fountains, and noble kings ruled justly over the land.
Rowena: But it has been the talk of ancient arts of war and magic, magicked artifacts, and lost lore that's piqued my interest. Rowena: Now, if someone was able to find these relics…and have them properly restored…think of the possibilities! Heh heh heh…
Rowena: The highest rankin' among the beastmen carry all manner of wards and whatnot bearin' the seals o' the primals they serve. . Rowena: Seals come in all forms, dependin' on what beast tribe you're dealin' with. Fetch a pretty price, too, in some circles. Don't ask me why, but rich folk've taken to collectin' the bloody things. Primal seals, they call them.
Rowena: And that's why I'm lookin' to get my hands on one of each─an inferno seal from the Amalj'aa, a vortex seal from the Ixal, and a tremor seal from the kobolds. Inferno seals, vortex seals, and tremor seals can be obtained from the Battle for the Golden Bazaar, Hyrstmill, and Aleport respectively.
Rowena: Each Grand Company's seen to issuin' a book─ On the Properties of Beastmen. That'll help you tell if the seals you find are the genuine article. Oh, and don't you go forgettin' to bring me that copy of On the Properties of Beastmen , neither.
So basically it seems like to get each AF weapon you'll need to:
1. Get the "On the Properties of Beastmen" key item from your GC (25k seals) 2. Get one of each of the Primal Seals (Tremor, Vortex and Inferno) 3. Give all of the above to Rowena for a note that will get Gerolt to help you. 4. Go to Gerolt at the Hawthorne Hut and give him the note to get an AF weapon.
So this will likely require Level 5 Hamlet Defense participation, though I'm not 100% sure at what level the NM bosses spawn.
Well think of it this way, you don't need to get 175k seals and 7 of each Primal seal if you're not going to get all of the weapons. Get the ones you want first and work on the others as time goes on. I imagine these Primal Seals likely drop off the NM itself or the chest so Top 20 won't be a requirement. Seems like the Top 20 only get the Militia off-hand tools.
25k seals per weapon? I think I died a little inside just now. But I guess that's what people want.. more chore, less japery :/ lol
I'm totally down for some seal farming. I need to get Toto memorized really badly :s
Also, the Hamlet NMs that may drop the seals probably appear during a Lv. 2 defense… this is what led me to this conclusion:
(This is under Fixed Bugs in the patch notes)
"An issue with hamlet defense battles wherein Disciple of the Hand/Land abilities that lift enmity did not take effect until the enemy NPC Sazel Ciloc the Divine appeared."
Or they might just add some more NMs and higher difficulties ^^;. I just hope the seals drop 100% if you have the key item, otherwise I'm gonna be sooooo mad. :x
Prepare to be incredibly angry lol. I mean a 100% drop rate would be nice but it would mean you only have to win 7 times to get all of them. They are going to adjust the requirements to get to the higher supply ratings because all 3 are in place now.
So, just to be sure I am understanding this right… From the looks of it, we HAVE to participate in the abysmal Hamlet Defenses and spend 25k in GC seals to get JSE weapons?
Imho, that is a straight-up bull-shit move on SE's part.
If that is the case (and JSE weapons are indeed through Hamlet Defenses), these weapons better be the epeen. Personally, even if they are the absolute best weapon to have, it's gonna be hard for me to justify doing Hamlet to get them, let alone spend 25k in seals that I could use for other GC gear that multiple jobs will benefit from or the weapons (of which some are better than, on par with, or nearly on par with the Primal weapons).
As Tywin eloquently put it, a kick in the dick… I am seriously doubting that I will even bother with these. I don't see the point, other than completing an all-right set of gear because I have everything else I need for the job and I feel like punishing myself.
I think we're all a little worried Diji :/ The best thing we can do for now is probably gather seals, and wait for more information.
I do believe it was mentioned that these weapons would be upgradeable, so the seals may be tokens used to do that. Again, it's probably better to wait a little for now.
I don't get the issue everyone seems to have with Hamlet Defense. I thought the fights were pretty fun and thankfully let all classes participate. So what's the problem with Hamlet Defense?
The seals is a bit much but they're supposed to be hard to get and time consuming. It's always a choice though, I mean you can farm Ifrit/Moogle 100+ times to maybe get what you want, farm Garuda for 20 runs a weapon or do Hamlet Defense a few times to get AF weapons. Every end-game gear acquisition is grinding, period.
I'm fine with doing Hamlet Defense to get the seals. It's not a horrible event and if you've got a 50 craft or gatherer, you could easily find a group, I'd imagine. I don't believe there will be a shortage of LS members willing to do the events if this is truly the path to AF weapon acquisition.
It will take a little while to get the seals but it's supposed to take time to do these things. In XI, the relic weapons required you to get a drop from Dynamis and then either grind for 2 years or spend your balls off to get the currency to buy upgrades. If all I have to do is a few hamlets and then farm up some seals for a week, then I'm good to go.
That being said, I don't mind working for the items as long as they're worth the hassle. If I can get 43 DPS and INT+15 STR+15 and Fists+ on these lion heads, I'll be lining up at Aleport.
