From what I hear, PLD does have a few issues with enmity generation due to a lack of abilities gear for that purpose. Warrior, on the other hand is an enmity machine. Seems a bit off.
So far, I would say that I love Monk. It's a blast and a half to play and my B-boy stance is unmatched. Elemental fists are a great feature when DD'ing and the speed boost from Fists of Wind brings me back to the days of HQ ninja boots.
The hard part is now figuring out what secondary I want to do. Bard is a lot of fun. I'm almost finished with DRG (just need Aurum Vale and the last 2 quests) but haven't had enough time on it to judge my enjoyment of the job. Black Mage seems to be a powerhouse, despite its lack of healing. High risk, high reward play style is always enticing.
Still, I'm torn on whether I should go Warrior and join Baley Grey in the brotherhood of the Axe.
I can't say much about the enmity issue, but I do know that when I tried to heal PLD tanks in Ifrit (4 times successfully, 2 times not so much) they seemed much harder to keep alive than a GLD. When the tank is full HP one moment but so low I can't even get a cure off to save them after running from an Eruption it just feels off. Of course, could be that unlike GLD, PLD requires a 50 WHM to keep alive.
As far as BLM goes, it is a very solid job. Like Tywin said it is a high risk/high reward type class which is fun for people who like to stare at their corpse every once in a while. Sleepga is amazing if your party allows you to use it (good luck with that). Freeze is spectacular and increases our Hate management/DPS potential by quite a bit.
Of course, I have my very minor complaints. Other than Freeze the class plays exactly the same as THM, so if you don't like THM you will not like BLM. Our two new DD abilities are somewhat lackluster. Flare requires you to put yourself in danger by standing in the middle of a group of mobs for 8 seconds, and if no one pulls them away from you in that time (good luck with that) you are now in range to get your face eaten off unless you are fighting mobs weaker than you. For Burst you need low HP to increase it's damage, so you have to risk your life (through Convert) for an ability that only does a bit more than a Thundaga. Of course, you can use it when Thundaga is on cooldown as a replacement combo if the tank can hold the hate so it's not all bad. I do feel that an ability on a 15 minute cooldown and requires you to almost kill yourself to get the most out of it should be a tad stronger though. Once again, these are minor complaints. The Job is just fine.
I dunno, I mean Glad is pretty much Paladin except Paladin has access to more heals. Sure they need a Bard to keep their MP up but Holy Succor is one hell of a self-heal. Hell if you heal someone else with it, you get healed. Not to mention Divine Veil puts up an AoE Regen. On top of that Paladin blocks more often than Gladiator, though on something like Ifrit you may not see it. Honestly also on Paladin is the first time anyone's actually ever complimented my ability to hold hate, not once on Gladiator.
The one area Paladin falls short to Gladiator is really only in the HP department. Survivability on Ifrit wasn't much of an issue last night, only really died when I had cracks on me. The last run I died because I hit the wrong macro and didn't have full health up.
I'm not saying Paladin's perfect but I wouldn't say it's worse than Gladiator. At any rate the devs have already said they're going to tweak Paladin.
As opposed to Warrior, sure Warrior may be able to hold hate better in some cases probably mostly due to Antagonize. The big problem with Warrior is you have two self-heals, Second Wind and Bloodbath. I suppose having a healer present could take care of that but if they go down you're essentially screwed. Thinking about it Paladin actually has one more AoE taunt than Warrior, War Drum. Though Warrior is able to do more AoE damage.
I agree with whats being said here. Bard is amazing, though Fin has it right, it shouldn't be the Archer job. Alas, it is.
Black Mage is fun, but it DOES play just like THM. I think Burst is too weak for a 15 minute timer. It made more sense to me to put Convert on a 15 minute timer and make Burst a normal timing move.
Paladin does seem to be getting the shaft at the moment, but I'm sure Yoshi will swoop in and save the day.
