I just wanted to thank you all again for letting me come along to check out Ifrit. Wow, seeing it first hand is a lot dif than just the youtube vids. Also, thank you for your patience with my nubbiness. :) You guys looked really good and seem to have it down really well. I was impressed.
I noticed I was just starting to get worse as things went along from nerves. I didn't want to wipe us all night. I need to learn which attacks = what actions I should be prepared to take.
Couple things I was wondering. Do you all know a way for the healer to have Ifrits HP displayed while not having him targeted directly? When healing I felt a little blind as to where we were at with him sometimes. I don't remember seeing an hp bar hover above his head but that could be because I was so close to him and I had the camera a little more down to be able to see cracks. And I have read it is good for conjurers to throw an Aero on him to help with preventing some of his hp regen or something. It entered my mind I should do this abit because the other conjurers were really on top of things (you were totally carrying me lol >.<) and if I was more on my game would have had plenty of time to throw out an Aero here or there.
I also was wondering if any of you play with a controller and if so which one. Or do you prefer mouse and keyboard?
A huge problem became glaringly obvious to me during the Ifrit run. My controller rp walks when I hit certain directions sometimes. I have had it happen before in DH but it didn't seem like it caused a problem really. But yeah I think a couple of my numerous deaths could possibly have been avoided if I was running instead of rp strolling. I know we are on Besaid and it's fabulous rp, but I am not pro enough to rp walk out of cracks with enough time to spare to not to get hit. >.<
Looking down at the controller the rp walking kicks in more often when I hit like up right, up left, down right, and down left on the analog stick. Does anyone else have this issue?
I have tried mouse and keyboard but the controls feel really awkward and clumsy. I like the controller but random rp walking is a serious problem in boss fights. I never noticed it was this bad. During Ifrit when I see cracks and rings of death on the floor I feel like I should have started running out of it yesterday but my character started taking a leisurely stroll like she is tiptoeing through daisies or something.
I am going to go into the config and look around but I don't think there was a setting for that. I might try switching moving character movement to the D-pad. I was also thinking of buying the FFXIV game controller. They are only like 15$ on Amazon.
Any tips would be appreciated :)
TLDR: "I don't suck! It's this damn controller!" *Throws controller across the room* ;)
Thanks Fin. The one I am having a problem with is a Logitech Dual Action. It is a little older but seems in perfect condition. I used it for playing FFXI some years ago I don't remember it making the character walk. It works fine but under the analog sticks it is square and not round. I know it sounds weird but like if I rotate the analog sticks it doesn't move in a circle it moves in a square. So this might be part of my problem.
Do you have any problem with rp walking kicking in?
That one looks really nice. The wire is kind of annoying with the one I have. I found an old forum with a person having the same problem I am having. There doesn't seem to be a way to fix it.
It's possible your local GameStop has one, but not likely. The website is sold out and does not have the option to find a store with one. (PS I work for GameStop… lol)
You moved really well around Ifrit by the way :) Thanks for letting me follow you around lol.Nikokishiko
Thanks! It took many a death and tries before I got the hang of it. Like I said on Mumble last night. Most of this fight is learning the patterns and experience. There's a reason Magnus always called out "Take a shot" when I got hit… It used to happen a LOT!
1. You did very well for a first run. Much better than most.
2. Don't worry about Ifrit's HP. If you need to know you can ask in mumble and someone can tell you :)
3. Don't worry about Aero until you get his pattern down. Casting it is something CNJ vets do. While it helps, it is not essential for winning.
4. I use an XBox 360 controller. the DPad stinks but it works well enough. The RP walk might be the whole "rev up because your character is a car" thing built into the game. If so, not much you can do about it but face the right direction at the right time, which is not always possible.
Your walk button may be set to when you push in the stick, so you are inadvertently pushing it in on diagonals. I use a PS3 controller; if you have one sitting around that would be by far the cheapest route, just have to buy a Bluetooth adapter for your PC (I got my adapter for $1.80 shipped). But it will require you to resync with the PS3 if you ever want to use it with your system again lol so if you have people/significant others play with you a lot that could be an annoyance.
Other sites for cheap stuff (may or may not have controllers): Monoprice.com focalprice.com
Edit: with target mode A, you could theoretically target Ifrit and then hit cure and use up and down to cycle through the party list. Only disadvantage is if the tank gets a hard smack and you need to cure him NOW but he's in the middle of the party list lol.
Thanks for the info Fin, Tip and Sil. I am about to head to the Gamestop to peep out what they have.
I'll play around with different target modes. Only real reason I was worrying about his HP was if it gave clues as to when he was going to use certain abilities. You guys were good with giving people heads up though like with nails and things so it's not a huge thing probably.
Good to know the Aero thing isn't a must have.
I tried flipping to character movement to the Dpad and it was like (@.@) so yeah I might give the PS3 or Xbox controllers a whirl if they don't have the Logitech Wireless controller. The diagonals are definitely a problem with this old one. Up down left and right are totally fine but when I start to move if it has even a slight diagonal it has a chance to rp walk >.< then I have to stop moving and start moving again to get at a run speed.
Okay, I'm gonna head out the door. I'll log in later if I can get a new controller to try out. Peace.
Oh you know what that happened with my old controller; just try unplugging it and plugging it back in…or you can take it apart and see if its dusty :) this is assuming you don't find a new one
