I figured this would a be a good place to transcribe my jumbled navigation notes on The Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak before my papers wrinkle away. These notes are thanks to the combined efforts of Vincen, Winri and Nockolisk and their patience as I took us through many wrong twists and turns learning the dungeon. I realize that there are other routes out there that are much faster, especially if you split your group, but I can't vouch for them because I have never tried them. Veterans of the instance, please feel free to add whatever notes you might have. I'm sure I have a lot to learn.

This particular post focuses on a party with an average level of 30 or less sticking together and not putting ANY undue stress on the healer. It requires 2 (1 if your tank is higher level / geared well) classes that can take hits and one healer. CON is a better choice, but THM can work very well if people work as a team. A 4th player is optional, but it does make it significantly easier. GLA, LNC and CON is probably the most stress free combo I have done it with.

__STUFF TO KNOW__
- You only have 1 hour in the dungeon. Currently there is no lockout timer.
- Each gate and boss door requires 4 photocells (green glowing lights) to unlock. You cannot pick up a photocell if you are hit. If one person picks it up, everyone has access to it. Delegating a single person to pick up photocells is a good idea.
- There are 6 chests in static locations that are considered group loot and the loot will go into your loot list to be traded if you choose. Choosing 1 person, possibly the same person who is picking up photocells, to open them is usually a good idea. Each chest has a possibility for a static piece of equipment or a piece of Dark Matter.
- There are 4 sections to the dungeon, 3 of which are unlockable and 3 bosses. You do not have to do every section and you can only kill one boss per run. Southern boss is Antares, eastern boss is Sargas who fights the same as Antares and the northern boss is Shaula. There is an achievement for killing each one.
- There are bonus chests after killing the boss for completing certain tasks during the run.
1. Completing the dungeon
2. Opening all chests
3. Killing enemies
4. Unlocking 3 areas
5. Finishing the dungeon in under 35 minutes
Note that I have read a few different versions of these requirements, so some of these may be wrong. However, I have been on runs that have received all 5 chests doing the things listed above so even if the list is incorrect striving for these tasks will result in 4-5 chests.

__LOOT__
All chests have their own loot lists, so it is important that you choose which path you take based on the group's needs. For example, finishing the dungeon in under 35 minutes is the only way I know of to get the THM and PGL weapons.

You can only carry one instance of each piece of equipment in your inventory. If you already have one it is nice to pass it along to someone who does not have it, even if they still need to work on a class that can use it. If you do not pass it to someone, the loot will eventually vanish from your loot list. All the loot sells for 1 gil.

Potentially inside the 6 free chests:
Torturer's Monocle (Rank 30 DoM head)
Torturer's Duckbills (Rank 30 DoM feet)
Brigand's Acton (Rank 30 DoW body)
Brigand's Gloves (Rank 30 DoW hands)
Warden's Barbut (Rank 30 GLA MRD LNC head)
Warden's Gauntlets (Rank 30 GLA MED LNC hands)

Finishing the dungeon chest:
Ascetic's Halfrobe (Rank 30 DoM)
Ascetic's Tights (Rank 30 DoM)
Poacher's Hat (Rank 30 DoW head)
Poacher's Tunic (Rank 30 DoW body)

Opening all chests:
Heart of House d'Arlendre (Rank 30 CON 2H weapon)
Waning Sun Pelta (Rank 30 GLA shield)

Killing enemies:
Charred Axe (Rank 30 MRD weapon)
Warden's Dagger (Rank 30 GLA weapon)

Unlocking 3 areas:
Tidesplitter (Rank 30 LNC weapon)
Joukil's Guile (Rank 30 ARC weapon)

Finishing the dungeon in under 35 minutes:
Tenfinger Tallstaff (Rank 30 THM 2H weapon)
Unbreakable Knuckles (Rank 30 PGL weapon)

__BOSSES__
It's pretty important to know which boss you will be finishing off the instance with. The tactics written here are based on a rank 30 or less party with no fancy tricks or forcing the healer to babysit. It assumes you have at least 1 tank (MRD works very well due to aggro gaining abilities), 1 healer (CON is the easiest choice) and at least 1 other person.

**ANTARES***************************************************
The easiest of the three and the fastest to reach, found at the southern boss door. A perfect choice if you are going after the "35 minutes or less" bonus chest. The "Finishing the Dungeon" chest has a high chance to reward gil instead of a piece of equipment.

After the skippable cutscene, you will see 1 large Diremite (Antares) and 3 baby mites. Have your main tank pick up the big one and your secondary tank pick up the three little ones and pull them away from the boss. If you do not have anyone who you'd call a secondary tank, just choose the person with the most aggro/AoE capability. The healer should hopefully wait until aggro is picked up, though if something bad happens Soughspeak is a lifesaver. Once initial aggro has been set, no one but the main tank should be attacking Antares until all three little ones are killed. Once Antares looses a certain amount of her health she summons 2 more mites. Have the secondary tank and fourth player pick them up and kill them before hitting the boss again. Again, after losing a certain amount of health she will summon 3 more mites. Have your secondary tank pick up the extra mites to keep them off of the healer while the fourth player stays on the boss. Once aggro has been established on the tiny mites, the secondary tank can join in killing the boss. When Antares dies any mites left will disappear with her.

Note: Never tank the boss near the boss door. Always pull into the room. The closer the boss is to the door, the more likely you will activate her healing ability. To cancel the healing ability, pull her away from the door.

One thing to worry about is that if your main tank is a bit overleveled or is a Doomspike loving LNC, Antares' health can deplete too fast and overwhelm the group with mites. If this is a problem you can use the door heal to your advantage to keep her from going dangerously low by dancing her back and forth. However, doing this prolongs the fight and you risk your healer running out of mana.

A secondary tactic if you have a DoM heavy group is to simply make your tank run to the opposite side of the room while the DoMs stand away and spam heals/AoE to attract and wipe out the mites quickly to switch to the boss. It can be a little risky if the DoMs go overboard and run out of mana, but it works very well.

A third tactic for those who prefer to put all the stress on their healer and have him babysit the group, an overleveled CON can usually maintain aggro on the baby mites through healing and keep them controlled via Sleep. A lot of things can go wrong and I don't particularly care for this tactic, but this will probably be the tactic in demand if you PUG a run.
************************************************************

**SARGAS***************************************************
The second boss that is unlockable. The "Finishing the Dungeon" chest has pretty much the exact same chance at equipment loot as Shaula, who is a much harder fight. Sargas is a good choice if you don't think you can handle / don't want to bother fighting Shaula.

The tactics are exactly the same as Antares, so read above.

There is a bug I have encountered on Sargas where he will summon 6 baby mites instead of 3 for his final phase. That's 8 mites running loose if you haven't killed the two from the second phase. If this happens… good luck! A Sleep might save you if no one wakes them up, but that requires an overleveled CON. However, if you do fall to the mites it is possible that he will not summon any mites at all during your second attempt.
************************************************************

**SHAULA***************************************************
The queen Diremite that takes the longest to unlock. The "Finishing the Dungeon" chest has pretty much the exact same chance at equipment loot as Sargas, who is a much easier fight. A good choice if you are looking for a challenge. Note that doing this fight with a level 30 party or lower really needs 2 people who can tank decently. Having the fourth player healing capable helps quite a bit as well.

The tactics are almost the same as Antares and Sargas except this time during the second and third phase she summons a Suitor, a large Diremite, instead. These hit decently hard and have a lot of life, so the "sit DoM in a corner and spam" method is not as viable. On top of that, sometimes extra small mites are summoned as well and I am not sure if that is a bug or if they are summoned by the Suitors or perhaps Shaula herself. The likelihood that extra mites will spawn increases with the amount of time it takes to kill her. My worst attempt had 2 Suitors and 6 Mitelings running around. Once again, if you get to the third phase and wipe, running back and attempting again often results in an add free fight beyond the 3 initial baby mites.

All that said, if your party works as a team and kills the first Suitor spawn to take the pressure off the healer you are very likely to win.

__OTHER TIPS__
In general, take one group of monsters at a time. If you have seen videos of people gathering a bunch of monsters up to AoE down keep in mind that those people are usually higher level and geared than the average party running Toto-Rak.

The worst enemy to look out for is the group of mosquito looking creatures. Especially if you are a melee heavy group. They can AoE, poison and generally rip your group apart if your party is level 30 or below. Use caution.

Enemies can sense lower level players through walls. If your party is low level, do not try and bypass things unless you are looking to create a big mess and your group can handle it.

Pressing ESC activates the skip function for all cutscenes. This can save valuable time when trying for a 35 minute or less run.

Using Return teleports you to the start of the instance and activates your 15 minute cooldown. While unnecessary it can save a lot of time. I usually save it in case we make a wrong turn somewhere and need to catch up or use it just after getting enough photocells to unlock the 4th and last area as a shortcut.

Having one person pick up the Photocells and open chests allows the other party members to focus on the monsters, saving time. having this person also try and keep track of and announce who gets what after a chest is opened can really help out a busy DPS who's chatlog is probably being too spammed with actions to notice what is in his loot list.

__THE RUN__
I should note that these instructions are to get the maximum amount of chests for the chosen path. There are faster ways if, for some reason, your party does not want the extra loot or bonus chest. If you follow this route quickly and your party works well together (no wipes) you should finish a full run with at least ten minutes to spare if not more. It is faster to have the party split up at points, but once again this path is for lower leveled people who might not be as familiar with the instance as others.

**FIRST AREA**
Go east. Drop down the one way wall. On the right hand side just before you hit the corner there is a chest in the shadows. The first Photocell is on the wall straight ahead.

Head south, then through the first eastern passage you find. Head east again when the path forks, then south when you can. The second Photocell is on the wall straight ahead. If you are going for chests, head west. The chest is at the dead end.

Go back up north and head west, down the path you originally came from, then head south when the path forks. When you come to a place with three cells, the third Photocell is in the north western cell.

Keep heading south. Ignore the magic circle for now and go west until you hit the corner. The fourth Photocell is just around the corner on the right hand side. Head back east to the magic circle and select it to open the second area.

If you are going for a quick 35 minutes or less run with Antares as the boss, keep reading. If you are not, skip to "SECOND AREA".

**35 MINUTES OR LESS / ANTARES**
Head east through the newly opened area, then north. DO NOT FALL DOWN THE ONE WAY. The first cell on the left (SW) has a chest. The first Photocell is near the one way drop on the right hand side. Head back south.

Take the east path and keep following it, past one set of 4 cells, ignore the north dead end, and to a second set of 4 cells. The second Photocell is in the SE cell.

Continue north, then turn west. The third photocell is right in front of you at the bend.

Go back east, south and then south again. If you are doing the quest, the Moogles you must speak to are in one of the cells ahead. The fourth photocell is in the NE cell. Open the door to fight Antares. If you win in time you will get access to the THM/PGL loot chest.

**SECOND AREA**
Head east through the newly opened area, then north. DO NOT FALL DOWN THE ONE WAY. The first cell on the left (SW) has a chest. The first Photocell is near the one way drop on the right hand side. Head back south.

Go south again. If you are doing the quest, the Moogles you must speak to are in one of the cells ahead. The second photocell is in the NE cell.

Go back west, then take the east path and keep following it, past one set of 4 cells, ignore the north dead end, and to a second set of 4 cells. The third Photocell is in the SE cell.

Continue north, then turn west. The fourth photocell is right in front of you at the bend.

Head back east, the south until you come to the 4 way path at the beginning of this area. Go North and fall down the one way. Keep heading north until you reach a magic circle. Use it to open the path east.

**THIRD AREA**
Go east, then south. Fall down the one way. Go around the corner and continue east. The first Photocell is on the north wall just past the single north cell.

Keep following the path east as it turns north. The second Photocell is on the west side of the wall as you go up.

Head west, then take the first south. The third Photocell is in the NW cell at the dead end.

Head back east as it turns north, then continue west until you cannot go west any longer at an area with a Pudding. The forth Photocell is in the SE corner of the room you just entered.

If you want a chest, go north. The chest is in the northern cell at the dead end. Head back south to where you found the fourth Photocell.

If you want to fight Sargas at this point, go all the way east and unlock the door. If you want to continue on and not use Return, so south, south again and keep following the path. Ignore the north dead end and keep going south. Then head north, down the one way, and keep going north until you see the magic circle again. Use it a second time to unlock the last area.

If you want to continue on and use Return, have your entire party use it, then head east, down the one way, east, east and then north to the magic circle.

**FOURTH AREA**
Head west. As the path bends north there is a chest in the NW cell along the wall. Keep following the path north as it turns east The first Photocell is in the SE corner of the U like bend.

Keep following the path until the path splits. The second Photocell is on the west wall. You might need to turn your camera a bit to see it.

If you want to go to Shaula, read the next section. If you want to fight Sargas, skip ahead to "BATTLE SARGAS". I would not recommend fighting Antares at this point, as it has a lower chance of equipment and the gil reward is not very good.

**BATTLE SHAULA (HARD)**
Go south, but not as far as the fork in the path. The third photocell is in the NE cell. The last free chest is in the SW cell.

Head back north and take the east path. Watch the tight corner as the mobs behind it can aggro lower leveled players through the walls. As you follow the path the fourth Photocell should be right in front of you as you turn the tight corner.

Keep heading down the path and open the door to fight Shaula. If you beat her, have been fighting along the way and picked up every free chest along the way you should get at least 4 bonus chests.

**BATTLE SARGAS**
Head east. Watch the tight corner as the mobs behind it can aggro lower leveled players through the walls. As you follow the path the third Photocell should be right in front of you as you turn the tight corner.

Go back west and head south. The fourth photocell is in the NE cell. The last free chest is in the SW cell.

Keep heading south down the one way, then head east. Follow the path as it turns north, then head all the way east. Open the door and fight Sargas. If you win, have been fighting along the way and picked up every free chest along the way you should get at least 4 bonus chests.

**I HATE EQUIPMENT AND WANT TO FIGHT ANTARES**
Head east. Watch the tight corner as the mobs behind it can aggro lower leveled players through the walls. As you follow the path the third Photocell should be right in front of you as you turn the tight corner.

Go back west and head south. The fourth photocell is in the NE cell. The last free chest is in the SW cell.

Head south, down the one way, south and south again. Open the door and fight Antares. If you win, have been fighting along the way and picked up every free chest along the way you should get at least 4 bonus chests. One likely containing a meager amount of gil.

The run, which no doubt shares some similarities with other runs, was made by myself, Vincen, Winri and Nockolisk. Information on the loot and possible requirements for the bonus chests was gleaned from the Lodestone, FFXIV offical forums, Zam and the Blue Gartr forums.
